POLICY

In order to create a more efficient library media center in the Anytown School, all cataloging activities will be outsourced to vendors.

PROCEDURES

  • Librarian will complete a vendor profile online or from a magazine order form

    • o Cataloging preferences
    • o Classification preferences
    • o Processing preferences
  • Librarian will complete a requisition formReceive completed and approved requisition form

    • o Fill out the form and sign it
    • o Attach the vendor profile form to the requisition form
    • o Have building administrator sign it, as well as the head librarian
    • o Head librarian will send over to the district office financial dept. for approval

  • Add the amount to be taken out of the library’s budget in the budget binder

  • Receive items shelf ready from vendor

  • Look over packing slip to be sure all items were received/shipped

  • File paperwork

  • Subtract the amount used in the shipment for the order in your budget binder (this could be the same as above, or you could receive multiple shipments that add up to the total amount)

  • Contact the company if there were missing items, or something wrong with the packing slip/invoice

  • If not received shelf ready from the vendor, library assistant/aide will prepare the necessary items to complete and make products shelf ready (Barcode, call number, dust jacket, spine labels, etc)

  • Librarian will download MARC records from email/website/CD/disk

  • Librarian will upload MARC records to school cataloging system

  • Librarian will Check MARC records for accuracy

  • Librarian will change records for accuracyLibrary assistant/aide will stamp items with school library stamp on title page

    • o Add local data to your MARC record
    • o Change or add any other applicable information: Refer to the Copy Cataloging Checklist provided by Candace Blessing (Course handout for LSC5521: Introduction to Electronic Cataloging) to edit and enhance uploaded MARC records
  • Library aide will place new items on shelf

Processing options include barcodes, catalog cards, pockets and due date cards, laminated jackets, spine stamping, spine labels, security monitoring devices, and MARC records.

This website is very easy to navigate. Special features include a “My Library” tab for creating and saving lists and orders, and an author showcase. A list of the current top 50 books on the homepage is also helpful for the librarian wanting to purchase popular titles.

This website is incredibly interactive and inviting. Users can do a “Quick Search” for a specific resource, or complete an advanced search. Links are located on the homepage to search for resources by awards, collections, state lists, or common core standards.

This is a great resource to get all the learning supplies for your library in one order. This one stop shop is also very easy on your budget. A customer service phone number is located at the top of each page for easy accessibility.

In order to see available resources, the user must set up an account (user name and password). This website is fairly easy to navigate, but a little outdated visually. There is not much information on the webpage until one has access to more by logging in.

The website is very user-friendly. Books can be searched by subject (math, science, language arts, character ed., fiction, early literacy, etc.) or by state standards. A “ hot topics” tab can be used to find the most popular items or the newest resources. All resources can be viewed without a membership.
